Dolly Would

WWDD?

We've all been faced with life's burning questions:  Will I ever meet my true love?  Is there such a thing as forgiveness?  What do I do if a bear attacks?  Let us answer these questions with another burning question:  "What would Dolly do?"

Welcome to Dolly Would, a dance/theatre work set entirely to the music of Ms. Dolly Parton.  In it, six characters stumble, fight, and dance their way through a series of obstacles, searching for love, happiness, and a little peace and quiet.  And with the help of Dolly, they just might find it.

"Dolly Parton would be proud...Taylor's choreography is nimble and creative:  The dancers leap off the back wall, flip upside down, sashay, and straddle each other in smartly envisaged moves...you can't help but love them.  Consistent with a line in the show, they all seem to say, 'I've got the power of Dolly in me.'"

-The Austin Chronicle

"Dolly should be thrilled to have her work complement this Getalong Gang production."

We Have Separation

Amnesia.  Adultry.  Space Travel.  Hip Hop?

See, Roy’s got amnesia.  His brother is marooned in outer space.  His sister just got kidnapped.  And he can’t get up out of his chair.  Ouch.  Let's not even get into the monkey jailbreak.

Hip hop narration of a comic dissertation on the bleak alienation of digital communication.  (The rhymes in the show are better...)

“It’s rare for a playwright of [Driggers’] age to have such a clearly defined voice.”

  - Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of Joseph Papp Public Theatre

"This is a play for the verbose, for the forward thinker, for those who like to ponder and contemplate, and for those who appreciate risk and dare to try things that others in theatre have not attempted."

Talent Show 1989

Singing!  Dancing!  The deep and crushing shame of puberty!

The Getalong Gang goes oldschool with Talent Show 1989, a penetrating exploration of social mores in the context of adolescent peer pressure systems, patriotism vis a vis tapdancing, power ballad book reports, and karate chops.

"When you can produce laughter doing little more than setting up instruments, you're doing something very right. For summer entertainment, no one could ask for more."

  - The Austin Chronicle

"Freakin' hysterical...the entire cast made clever, committed character choices with great comic timing...A damn good time."

Ben Franklin: A Rock Opera

This Ain't Your Forefather's Rock Opera...

All school children know that Benjamin Franklin sold his soul to the Devil.

But do they know that on his quest for “the lightning of the gods” he did scale the treacherous mountain peaks of Philadelphia, did meet darkest Evil at every turn, and did stare into the three faces of the ancient three-headed eagle? Do they also know that he rocked? If not, this exploration of history, performance, and pure metal explaineth all.
